The Calcutta School of Music encourages a holistic approach to music, speech and drama. Both theory and practical lessons are offered and the student is then equipped to appear for assessments under the “Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM)”, “Trinity College London (TCL)” and “London College of Music (LCM)”, after clearing an internal audition.
The objective of music lessons is not just to teach the student to play an instrument or sing but to develop an appreciation and understanding for classical and contemporary music. Lessons are usually once a week and not exceeding 4 in a calendar month. Individual lessons are for 45 to 60 minutes and group lesson tutorials are for the duration of an hour. Stress is laid on quality and since trained teachers with the right qualifications in theses disciplines are difficult to come by, admissions have to remain restricted to manageable numbers. Certain disciplines require an interview or audition before admission.
